Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Shares

It is said that the Japanese word for Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) translates loosely as “food with a farmer’s face.”  At Sprout City Farms we believe that knowing one’s farmer is a vital step towards creating a healthy and sustainable food system.  We invite you to create that one-on-one relationship with your farmer by purchasing a CSA share this season at the Denver Green School Community Farm.

By purchasing a share you are also helping to support Sprout City Farms’ Farm to Cafeteria program, which provides fresh, organic vegetables to the Denver Green School cafeteria.

The Details:

      • Cost: $480 for a full CSA Share; feeds a family of 4 (can be split with another family for $240/half share)
      • What: Fresh, local, organic food each week, from mid-June to late September (16 weeks).

*NOTE: The CSA season in 2012 is nearly double what it was in 2011!*

Community Supported Agriculture: Frequently Asked Questions:

How does Community Supported Agriculture work?

Community Supported Agriculture is about forging a direct relationship between food producers and food consumers. To participate, one purchases a CSA “share” in the farm prior to the growing season. A CSA share is similar to a subscription, but instead of getting a newspaper or magazine each week, you get fresh, locally produced, organic food. During the growing season, shareholders come to the farm each week to pick up their freshly harvested produce.

The whole family is encouraged to come to the weekly pickup, as you will get to see the farm and how it’s growing, learn about seasonal availability of different veggies, and get recipes and tips on how to turn your share into a week’s worth of meals for you and your family. New for 2012: kid-friendly activities at pickup!

What if I’ll be out of town or on vacation during the CSA season?

Just give us notice in advance that you’d like a friend or neighbor to pick up your share that week. Or, if that’s not convenient, you can choose to donate your share of veggies that week to another family. Please let us know what your preference is.
